Wear sunscreen daily: before you start the day, throughout the day re-apply, and definitely if you are hitting the beach or poolside.

Sleep, Sleep, and more Sleep: make sure to get enough sleep. Taking a walk in the daylight will help you deal with jet lag or taking a short nap can also help you acclimate to your new time zone.

Drink plenty of water: this helps with everything from dehydration, constipation and dealing with jet lag. Carry a water bottle and make sure to drink 8-16oz. every time you stop to eat or drink. Will help keep you fluid!

Exercise: no one wants to think about exercise while on vacation, but taking 10 minutes a day to stretch or do a quick workout will help keep your energy levels up and fight off effects from jet lag. Options to consider that are easy to do anywhere: running, yoga, pilates, quick interval training, or even just going for a walk. Many of these types of quick workouts can be found on youtube or through a multitude of apps.

Pack a first-aid kit: good to have in case of stomach bug, scrape or fall.

Suggested First-aid kit should include:

  • Medicine for allergic reactions

  • Antibiotic ointment (Neosporin or something similar)

  • A fever and pain reducer (Tylenol, ibuprofen)

  • Dramamine or other motion sickness remedy

  • Imodium or Pepto-Bismol - stomach ache medicine

  • Rehydration tablets in case of diarrhea

  • Thermometer

  • Cortizone or other Anti-itch cream

  • Bandages of varying sizes

  • Cold and flu relief medication

Eat well: enjoy your trip and the foods of the local cuisine, but keep in mind that your body requires food as fuel and vitamins will help you not only keep your energy up, but also help maintain your immune system.

Mindfulness: taking a few moments every day to practice a bit of meditation can really allow you to appreciate each moment of the trip. There are plenty of meditation or mindfulness apps available. Most importantly, vacation should be about slowing down and appreciating all the joys of the trip.

*As with all healthy ideas, consult your doctor prior to starting any new exercise or diet regime.
